April 23, 2025

The former INTA and INAPI executive joins the Intellectual Property Group to drive growth in its operations across the region

ClarkeModet, the leading intellectual property firm in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries, has appointed Carolina Belmar as Regional Managing Director for Chile, Peru and Ecuador. Belmar brings extensive experience from both the public and private sectors, having most recently led the Latin America and the Caribbean Representative Office of the International Trademark Association (INTA), the world’s foremost organization in the field. Her appointment strengthens ClarkeModet’s commitment to delivering innovative, tailored IP solutions across the region.

With more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property, new technologies, and data protection, Belmar has held leadership roles in both national and international institutions. She previously served as Deputy Director of Chile’s National Patent and Trademark Office (INAPI), where she led major digital transformation initiatives in the trademarks division—positioning the office among the most innovative globally. She also played a key role in promoting the international visibility of Chilean brands and products.

Belmar has also worked with the French National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (Inria) and Chile’s Undersecretariat for International Economic Affairs, where she contributed to free trade agreement negotiations with multiple countries. In the private sector, she has practiced law at firms including CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo in Spain.

With this appointment, ClarkeModet strengthens its footprint in three dynamic and growing markets. Chile has emerged as a regional hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, currently leading various Latin American rankings. This environment offers significant potential for collaboration and exchange with neighboring markets such as Peru and Ecuador, making the region a strategic priority for the development and protection of intellectual property assets.

Commenting on her new role, Belmar stated: “I take on this new chapter with the clear mission of strengthening the comprehensive management of intellectual property for ClarkeModet’s clients across the region. Intangible assets are key to the competitiveness of our innovators and entrepreneurs. Our goal is to provide strategic support—from creation to valuation—helping them protect, manage, and monetize the full potential of their ideas in an increasingly global and technology-driven world.”

Belmar holds a law degree from the University of Chile and a Master’s Degree in Intellectual from the University of Alicante, Spain. She is a regular speaker at international forums and the author of numerous academic and industry articles on intellectual property, innovation, and the legal challenges of emerging technologies.
